In a recent research article published in the British Journal of Cancer, Bedics et al. developed a new B-ALL classifier using SALSA digitalMLPA Probemix D007 Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia*.
At present, prognostic classifiers for paediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) are limited in the number of included genetic aberrations and their combinations, which leads to the formation of suboptimal subgroups and prevents the adoption of more tailored approaches.
To address this challenge, Bedics et al. conducted a comprehensive study involving a large cohort of 260 paediatric B-ALL cases. By integrating D007 results with other molecular and cytogenetic data, the researchers successfully developed the innovative classifier "PersonALL". This classifier considers all possible combinations of screened genetic alterations, providing a more personal B-ALL stratification.
The authors concluded that inclusion of advanced methods such as NGS-based digitalMLPA, enabling genome-wide characterization of disease-relevant driver copy number aberrations, will prove to be fundamental to the future of ALL stratification.
