Upcoming Changes to MLPA Product Descriptions

Jan 09, 2025

In the coming years we will update product descriptions for SALSA® MLPA® products that are for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) use to a new structure and layout. The new format is easier to read, maintain and translate, suitable for the transition to the European In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR; regulation (EU) 2017/746), and visually aligns with the recently updated MLPA and MS-MLPA General Protocols.

Important information that is currently present in product descriptions will remain available, though its format may differ. Some information can now be found in a different location. Most importantly:

  • Probe ligation site information can now be found in the probe sequences document instead of the product description. This Excel file can be found in the Product documentation section (under Other product documentation) on product pages.
  • (Clinical) background information, commercially available positive samples, related products, and publications have been moved from product descriptions to product pages.

You can find product pages by searching for product codes, product names or gene names, or by using our assay finder. Product pages for IVD products have recently received a major design update to make room for the extra information that was removed from the product descriptions. Product pages for most RUO products will follow in the future. Some updated product pages already include new background information or learning resources. With more information to come, it is worth revisiting the product pages of your favourite products in the future.

Transition to the MANE exon numbering

MRC Holland is currently working on adjusting probe location annotation using ‘Matched Annotation from the NCBI and EMBL-EBI’ (MANE) throughout its product documentation. This will facilitate clearer variant interpretation and improve compatibility with key genomic resources used in both clinical and research settings.

When the exon numbering for a gene changes in the product description of a particular product, this update will be reflected in the Coffalyser sheets for all probemixes containing that gene. During the transition to the new exon numbering system, it may therefore happen that the exon numbering presented in the Coffalyser.Net output does not correspond temporarily to the one in the Product Description for certain probemixes. In case of such discrepancy, always verify the exact probe location using the probe sequences provided in the Product Description or Probe Sequence Sheet available on the product page at www.mrcholland.com. If anything is unclear, our team of Technical Support Specialists can be reached at info@mrcholland.com.
